    Spam Control

Beginning February 21, 2009, DePaul will begin using the Message Security service from Google (powered by Postini) providing you with e-mail protection against spam and viruses. The service prevents virus-detected messages and annoying junk email from reaching your inbox.

This is what you should expect as we rollout the service:
    • As your email address is added to the service, you will receive an email notification welcoming you to the service. The email also contains access and password instructions to the Message Center where you can manage your Message Security service.
    • Beginning February 22nd, 2009, you will also receive a daily email notification with a Quarantine Summary providing a list of your messages that have been quarantined since the previous day. You can view the messages from the list, deliver them directly to your inbox or just ignore them. You will only receive a quarantine summary e-mail on days when junk e-mail was sent to your account.
Once you receive the email notification welcoming you to the service, you may log in to your Message Center to review any possible legitimate messages. In the Message Center, you can prevent a sender's message from being quarantined in the future by updating your Approved Senders List and adjust your sensitivity to spam.

To log into the Message Center, go to https://login.postini.com/. Your Log In address is your @depaul.edu e-mail address. The first time you log in, you will use the temporary password sent to you in the email notification welcoming you to the service, at which point you will be prompted to update your password.

Please note that if you are using Microsoft Outlook in cached mode, your Quarantine Summary e-mail may be sent to your Junk E-mail folder. To allow delivery of this summary e-mail to your inbox, please add MessageCenter@depaul.edu to the Safe Sender's List. (Tools > Options > Junk E-Mail Button > Safe Sender's Tab. Click Add. Enter MessageCenter@depaul.edu. Click OK.)

E-mail resource accounts are also set up for message filtering. E-mail filter settings will be applied to a resource account based on the settings of the resource owner. Please contact the Technology Contact Center for additional assistance with setting up resource accounts for spam filtering.
