    Choosing Between Condor or Outlook

    As noted in our introductory text, some departments simply prefer that their faculty or staff use one type of e-mail account over another. However, if you are unsure of what you want or are thinking of making a change, please keep reading.

    There are some notable differences between Condor and Outlook. Depending on your specific needs, you may find that one type of e-mail account suits you better than another:

    Condor e-mail Outlook e-mail
    Condor accounts can also be used to launch a university Web site for faculty, staff, or recognized student organizations. Not related to university Web sites.
    Faculty in some departments tend to use Condor more than staff. Used by nearly all DePaul staff.
    Calendar:
    Personal calendar only. Cannot search other DePaul calendars for open appointment times for group meetings.
    Calendar:
    Users can find open appointment times for group meetings.
    Address book:
    Personal address book only. Cannot search for e-mail addresses of DePaul colleagues and departments.
    Address book:
    Personal address book and university resource. Users can search for addresses and write to DePaul colleagues and departments.
    University communications:
    Does not receive important and informational announcements from university leaders and departments.
    University communications:
    Key communication vehicle for important and informational announcements from university leaders and departments.
    Accessible through:
    https://studentweb.depaul.edu (Web-based interface shared with student e-mail system)
    Accessible through:
    desktop client. Also accessible through: https://outlook.depaul.edu
    University network account NOT required University network account IS required
    Account set up:
    • Account holder (user) requests/picks-up account in person at ID Services.

    • Cannot be requested until first day of employment.

    • Usually a 3-5 day turnaround.

    Account set up:
    • Department representative requests/receives account information on behalf of the account holder (user).

    • Typically completed before the new faculty/staff member arrives on campus and provided on first day of employment.
