Daylight Saving Time technology updates
Starting in 2007, Daylight Saving Time (DST) will begin three weeks earlier in the spring (March 11) and end one week later in the fall (November 4). This change affects many computing systems, servers, and applications.
Information Services is updating university technology systems in preparation
for DST. You can learn how DST will affect specific systems by clicking on the links below:
Outlook e-mail
Why is Outlook being updated this weekend?
| Due to the date changes to accommodate the new Daylight Saving Time schedule, the Outlook Calendar application needs to be updated. |
The timing of some of my appointments is incorrect, why did that happen?
| Information Services applied necessary patches to DePaul computers to correct the timing of appointments that are impacted by the new DST schedule. (KB 928388 was released 12/21/06 and the updated KB 931836 was released on 2/13/07). If your computer did not receive the patches,
or you scheduled appointments before you received the patch, appointments scheduled for March 11-April 1 may be incorrect by 1 hour.
These appointments will need to be re-created. If two people are viewing the same appointment from a patched machine and an un-patched machine, the times will not match up. |
How do I know if I have the updated patch?
- Go To “Add/Remove Programs”
- Confirm that the “Show Updates” is checked
- If you see “Update For Windows XP (KB931836),” you have the updated patch

If I don’t have the updated patch, how can I get it?
If my appointments have incorrect times, how can I fix them?

If any appointments are not scheduled at their correct time, the meeting organizer should re-create the appointment with the correct time.

Is there anything else that I can do to get ready for DST?
- Put Date and Time in appointment subject header
- Ex. Project Planning Meeting – 8:30 AM CST
- Print a paper copy of your calendar for March 11-April 1.
- Perform System and Applications Updates.

Macintosh
I use a Macintosh computer, how do I know if I need an update for DST?
Some Macintosh computers will require that you download an
update. Please check your Macintosh operating system:-
Select the Apple icon from the menu bar
- Select "About this Mac"
- Compare your operating system to the list below
Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) - Upgrade to 10.4.5 or later
- Click on Apple icon in upper left corner, select "Software updates"

How do I update Entourage for DST?
A patch was released on 1/8/07 for Entourage version 11.3.3 to prepare for DST. To verify your version of Entourage:-
Launch Entourage
- Select "Entourage" from the menu bar
- Select "About Entourage"
If you do not have Entourage version 11.3.3, follow these
instructions to update:
- Launch Entourage
- Select "Help" from the menu bar

Select "Check for Updates"
- Follow the prompts
Once you follow these steps you should still check your appointments scheduled for March 11-April 1 to verify that they are correct. If any appointments are not scheduled at their correct time, the meeting organizer should re-create the appointment with the correct time. |
Blackberry
Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) Users
| Blackberry users who are on the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) will receive a patch from Information Services to update their Blackberry. |
How do I know if I am a BES user?
| You will receive an e-mail notifying you with the steps you need to follow to ensure you are properly updated for DST.
If you are still unsure, please call the Technology Contact Center
at 312-362-8765. |
How will the BES update work?
- Starting this Saturday, you will receive the patch wirelessly
- Once the patch is applied, you will be prompted to reset the device, the device must be reset for the patch to be applied properly.

How do I know when my Blackberry patch is complete?
You can check the status of the DST patching on your device under "Options -> 2007 DST Patch."
Here is a list of the most common messages and their meaning:

If I am not a BES user, how can I prepare for DST?
| To apply the Daylight Saving Time patch to your Blackberry
device using USB please reference the following system requirements
and follow these steps: System Requirements: - Requires a USB-enabled Blackberry Device

Windows 2000 or higher operating system
- Internet Explorer 5.5
or higher (for ActiveX) with JavaScript enabled
- Local
administrator rights
- Temporarily allow pop-ups
- Blackberry
device running 4.0.0 software or higher
To apply the patch:
- Visit
http://www.blackberry.com/DST2007/patch/desktop/dst_update_loader.shtml
and follow the instructions on the page
- Download the patch to your device and follow any prompts to
reset your device once installation is complete.
