Residence hall telephone service & usage policy:
The telephone and voice mail service provided to residence hall students utilizes university owned telephone lines and equipment.
Therefore, the following regulations apply to usage on the university telephone system:
- Students are responsible for all charges that are billed to their assigned telephone number.
- Any and all charges that can be connected to a telephone number will be added to the student's telephone bill.
- In addition, collect calls cannot be accepted on any university phone.
Any tampering or destruction of university telephone jacks or cabling will result in a $50.00 fine, which will be added to the student's telephone bill. Repeated offenses could result in further disciplinary action.
Telephone harassment made by a student on a university telephone or to any off-campus telephone number will not be tolerated. The DePaul Information Services department and/or the telephone company can trace calls made from the university phone system if violations are suspected.
Telephone harassment can be defined as the following:
- Lewd, indecent or obscene voicemail greetings
- Threatening, prank or obscene phone calls or voicemail messages
- Repeated annoyance calls
Telephone numbers are assigned to a jack in a room. The numbers will not be changed under any circumstances, except if a student is receiving threatening or harassing phone calls.
Threatening or harassing phone calls should be reported to the
DePaul Public Safety Office. Public Safety contacts Information Services to change the phone number.
The DePaul telecom staff will change a student's number once at no charge if these circumstances exist. If additional number changes are required, the student will be assessed a $25.00 charge for this service.
Students are encouraged to use caution when deciding to give out their telephone numbers.
