    Tips for Student/Condor Sites

The following information provides basics to help you get started on your site:
    1. Obtain your account information.

      1. Students: Obtain your student e-mail/student Web account from any ID Services office. This was provided to you as a new student, but ID Services can re-set your account for you if you have misplaced or forgotten it. You will need to do this in person.

      2. Faculty/staff (personal sites): Complete the Condor E-mail Account form, print it, sign it, and take it to any ID Services office. In three business days, your account will be ready for pick-up in the ID Services office. You will need to pick this up in person.

      3. University department/organization sites: Complete the Departmental Web Site form, print it, sign it, and take it to any ID Services office. In three business days, your account will be ready for pick-up in the ID Services office. You will need to pick this up in person.

    2. Create a public_html directory, set the proper "permissions" for your directory, and change your password. Use SSH Secure Shell to do this.

      1. For guidance/instructions, use this Quickguide developed by DePaul's Instructional Technology Development department:

      2. SSH is available in DePaul student computer labs, faculty labs, and most office computers. (Go to the "Start" menu, click on "Programs" and find "SSH Secure Shell"). You can also download SSH through SSH, Putty, or Open SSH.
        • Those currently using Telnet are encouraged to switch to SSH, because SSH provides additional security for file transfers

    3. Create your page using basic HTML or any Web authoring tool of your choice.

      1. A Beginner's Guide to HTML
      2. Webmonkey Web developer's guide
      3. For faculty, ITD recommends Dreamweaver, available in faculty labs.

    4. Transfer your files using SSH. The same Quickguide noted above can help you do this.
