FAQ

What is the PeopleSoft 9.0 Upgrade Project?
At the present time DePaul is running human resources, payroll, and student administration services on the 8.0 version of the PeopleSoft Enterprise software. The upgrade project will enable DePaul to utilize new features and software improvements delivered by the vendor. It also keeps DePaul current on the software releases.

Why is it necessary to upgrade at this time?
Vendor support for the current 8.0 version of the software expires in August 2008. DePaul must upgrade to take advantage of PeopleSoft's enhanced features as well as continue to receive support from the vendor for critical regulatory changes and bug fixes.

When will the PeopleSoft 9.0 Upgrade take place?
The upgrade will take place over the Fourth of July weekend 2008. During the upgrade, Campus Connection will be unavailable beginning Thursday, July 3rd at 12:00 noon. You will be able to access Campus Connection again beginning the morning of Monday, July 7th.

Will other systems be available during the upgrade?
Yes, all other DePaul systems will remain available during the upgrade. This includes Blackboard, e-mail systems, wireless, and PeopleSoft Financials.

Will the end users of the system notice differences after the upgrade or will the changes be transparent?
There will be both behind-the-scenes changes that most end users will not notice, as well as obvious changes to the look and feel of the pages. One of the most obvious changes will be new benefits including:

    • the "Student Center" which provides a consolidated page for students to access their academic, financial, and personal information, and a new feature called "My Planner" which allows students to forecast their course enrollment over their entire academic career at DePaul,
    • the "Faculty Center", a centralized page for faculty members to view their course schedules, find rosters, and access information on their advisees,
    • and new or improved self-service functionality for staff and managers for HR and Payroll processes which includes position requests (WMRF), employee termination requests, and time reporting.

Will there be any training provided for students?
Online training is available for students at www.depaul.edu/learningcenter.

What type of usability research has DePaul University done for the PS 9 Upgrade?
The Information Services usability team has conducted several one-on-one usability and accessibility test sessions with students, faculty and staff.

A total of 20 students participated, including 16 undergraduates and four graduates. Student participants were recruited from various colleges within DePaul (CDM, Commerce, Communication, Education, LA&S, Law, and SNL), and included two visually impaired students and four members of the Student Government Association (SGA).

Seven faculty members from a variety of colleges (Music, Commerce, CTI and Theatre) participated in usability testing, as did six DePaul staff members from various administrative offices.

The results of our research, including direct feedback from the participants, will help us to improve the design of the PS 9 system by determining ease of learning, ease of use and user satisfaction.

How does the grid icon on the search page work?
On many search results pages in PeopleSoft 9.0, you will see a small blue grid icon (insert) at the top of the search results. This enables you to download the search results into an Excel spreadsheet.

In order to open the Excel spreadsheet, you may need to hold down the Control key and then click the grid icon. This should open up an Excel spreadsheet with the results.

How does the Search box work on the left hand navigation?
On the top of the left-hand navigation menu, there is a Search Box where you can type in all or part of a link name and click Search. The search results will return the link and the navigation to the link. This helps you easily find what you are looking for in the left-hand navigation menu.
