New Software for Office
If you are considering the purchase of additional software for your office computer or additional people, please start by calling the Technology Contact Center (TCC) at Ext. 2-8765.
- Technology Contact Center (TCC) determines if DePaul University already owns a license for that software.
- If the software is already licensed (Publisher, SPSS, Minitab, SAS or Maple), Technology Contact Center (TCC) will give you information about how to install and access the software.
If the software is not licensed, then Technology Contact Center (TCC) can help you determine whether the software is freeware (public domain) or if a license must be purchased.
- If the software is freeware, the faculty/staff contacts the manufacturer/distributor for permission to install the software. (Permissions are still necessary even for freeware.)
- Or, the license agreement (EULA) must state that the software is free for academic use.
Once the faculty/staff has permission (either via EULA, license, permission letter or permission e-mail), the software can be installed.
- This permission must be kept in your files. You will need to provide it if DePaul is ever audited regarding software licensing.
If a license must be purchased, then you must follow the standard budget procedures for your department/college.
- A quote must be obtained. The following table lists contact information for DePaul's preferred suppliers.
The budget manager purchases the software following departmental guidelines.
- The software/license is received.
- If the license is a Microsoft license, then a blank CD-R and a copy of the purchase order must be sent to the Software Specialist at Ext. 2-8899.
- The Software Specialist will make a copy of the purchased software and send the CD back to the faculty/staff.
- A copy of the purchase order will be sent to IS.
- The software is installed.
