Requesting Software for the Computer Labs and Classrooms

  1. If you wish to have software installed in the computer labs or classrooms for your Fall 2011 class, please start by reviewing the list at PC Labs Software https://www.is.depaul.edu/computers/labs/software.asp. If your class will be held after January 3, 2012, please start by reviewing the list at https://www.is.depaul.edu/computers/software/Win7LabSoftware.asp#SoftwareByLocation.

  2. If the software is not on that list, please call the Technology Support Center (TSC) at 312-362-8765 (or ext. 28765). Please note, trial software cannot be installed or tested in any Information Services labs or classrooms without permission from the software manufacturer/distributor.

    • The TSC will ask for the following information. If you do not have all of the information, just answer as completely as possible.
      • What is your name?
      • What is the software name?
      • What is the software version number?
      • Who is the software vendor?
      • Do you have the software license?
      • How many computers are covered under the license?
      • Do you have the software?
      • What is the class name and number?
      • Where should the software be installed?
        • Please be specific as to the campus, building and room location
      • When do you need to use the software?
        • Note: Software installations can take up to 10 business days after all licensing and software is received

  3. The TSC will create a ticket for the Software Requests team.

  4. A member of that team will contact you for the software, the license and any missing information.
    • If you do not have licensing information, a member of the Software Requests team will work with you to determine if the software is freeware or public domain or if it requires a purchased license.
      • Freeware or public domain software EULAs usually have a clause stating that they are free for everyone to use or they are free for academic/educational/nonprofit use.
      • If this clause is not available, then most software manufacturers/publishers can be contacted for permission to use the software. They will often ask how the software will be used in class or how many students will be using it.
      • If a purchased license is required, then your department will have a standard procurement procedure to follow. DePaul’s preferred supplier’s contact information is as follows
        Supplier Contact Email Phone
        CDWg Rusty Singer RustyS@cdwg.com 877-325-3359
      • Please keep a copy of the license or permission for your files. You may need to provide it if DePaul is ever audited regarding software licensing.

  5. Once the software and licensing have been received by the Software Requests Team, an installation package will be created by the Software Requests Team. This package will be tested by a member of that team to determine if there are any compatibility issues with other software installed on a computer in the requested lab/classroom.

  6. A member of that team will contact you to test for usability.

  7. Once you have certified that the software is usable for your purposes, the installation package is run on all of the relevant computers.

  8. A message will be sent to you to confirm that the installation is completed.
