Essential services for all new faculty

The following list introduces some of the technology resources that are available to faculty and staff at DePaul. If you click on a topic header, you will find additional information and forms within the IS site. Quick access to all forms is provided in the "IS Forms" link at the top of this page.

Important: Some services cannot be completed until the hiring department and Human Resources process new hire paperwork. For information about hiring procedures, contact Human Resources at Ext. 2-8500.

During your New Employee Orientation, you will review the IS Overview.

Desire2Learn

  • Desire2Learn is one of a growing number of electronic course management systems that encourage interaction between students and faculty; students and students.
  • Desire2Learn incorporates Web pages, e-mail, discussion boards, chat rooms, small group areas, online quizzes, an online grade book, document sharing, and more to create an online learning environment.
Campus Connection
  • Campus Connection is a Web site that consolidates access to many of DePaul's primary services and transactions.
  • New employee visits ID Services on first day of employment to receive this information. New faculty often receive this in a faculty orientation session.
  • HR paperwork must be processed before Campus Connection information can be issued.
Outlook e-mail
  • Outlook is the e-mail and calendar system that is available for all DePaul employees.
  • Hiring department initiates this request several days before the new employee's first day.
  • When requesting a new Outlook account, think about other services that the employee might need.
DePaul Card
  • Your DePaul Card is your identification to access various DePaul buildings and services, such as the library and Intelliprint.
  • New employee visits ID Services on first day of employment to receive a card.
  • HR paperwork must be processed before a DePaul Card can be issued.
Media Production & Training
  • Media Production & Training (MPT) assists faculty and students in using technology to enhance teaching and learning, whether in the traditional classroom or in the online environment, by offering one-on-one and group training programs, consulting services, instructional tools, online resources, lab facilities.
Library resources
  • Library resources include specialized resources to support research and teaching needs.
Telephone and voicemail
  • Hiring department initiates this request several days before the employee's first day.
  • New faculty can learn how to use the voicemail system by clicking here.
Training
  • New employees attend Human Resources' Technology Orientation on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. For more information, Ext. 2-8500.
  • Outlook, Campus Connection, telephones and other essential services are covered.
Other services to consider for new employees

DePaul Card privileges
  • DePaul Cards have a variety of possible functions.
  • To request access to restricted doors within your department, an authorized department representative should contact ID Services and provide the employee's name, social security number and the specific doors for which the employee needs access.
  • To activate photocopy access, an authorized department representative should contact Photocopy Services and provide the employee's name and appropriate budget information.
Network Connection
  • If the new employee's workspace was not previously connected to the computer network, a network jack may need to be installed and/or activated.
  • Hiring department initiates this request several days before the new employee's first day.
Computer equipment
  • If there is no existing PC or if the PC allocated for the new employee is out of warranty, work with Procurement & Payment to place an order for new equipment.
  • Departments should place orders at the very beginning of the hiring process. Please allow 28 business days for equipment to be shipped and installed.
PeopleSoft and/or Datamart access
  • If the employee's job requires access to sensitive data, the new employee and manager should fill out the appropriate paperwork.
Wireless Phone
  • If the employee's responsibilities will require a cell phone, the department budget manager can place an order through Cingular, the university's preferred vendor.
  • If the employee desires a phone for personal use, the employee can initiate an order with a personal credit card.
  • Procurement & Payment handles all cell phone ordering.
