What if I do not have enough available hard drive space to accommodate the Office 2007 installation?
The recommended amount of free disk space for this upgrade is 2 GB. If your computer has less than this, when you double-click on Office 2007 Upgrade icon, you will be prompted to contact the Technology Contact Center. You can delete files from your hard drive to make room for the Office 2007 installation package, and once you have enough hard drive space (2GB), Information Services will work with you to install Office 2007 on your computer.

What if I want to convert back to Office 2003?
Contact the Technology Contact Center and let us know what issues you are experiencing. Information Services staff will work with you through any issues that you are having with Office 2007.

What are the major differences between Office 2003 and Office 2007?
You will notice a lot of changes to the user interface in Office 2007, specifically with the new ribbon structure. For DePaul, this is the first time faculty and staff will have One Note included in the Microsoft Office 2007 suite. For more information, please attend one of the training sessions or look through the online training material on the ITD website www.itd.depaul.edu

Will I be forced to upgrade in the future?
The Microsoft Office 2007 upgrade is entirely optional, and you can choose to stay on Office 2003. Information Services may need to upgrade computers remaining on Office 2003 in the future depending on other application upgrades. Also, please note that all new DePaul computers will have Office 2007 installed beginning October 1st, 2008.

What happens if I am stay on Office 2003 and experience compatibility issues opening documents in the new Office 2007 format?
Information Services recommends upgrading to Office 2007 if you are experiencing compatibility issues with opening files in Office 2003.

How do you get Office 2007 on my computer?
DePaul uses a product called Altiris to manage desktop computers. We pre-copy the Office 2007 installation to all University-owned machines during the month of September. Just before the launch date, we copy an installation shortcut to everyone’s desktop. When this shortcut is clicked, the installation of Office 2007 will start. Once the product is installed, the installation shortcut will disappear. IS hopes that allowing customers to choose when to install the product will provide the most flexibility and convenience.

How do I play my voicemail attachments in Office 2007?
Double-click on the email so it will open in its own window.  Then, click the Add-Ins tab at the top of the window to see the voicemail control options.  Finally, click Play on PC or Play on Phone to listen to the message.

What does the Office Compatibility Pack do?
Microsoft has added new file formats to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 to reduce file size, improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external sources. To help ensure that you can exchange documents between Microsoft Office releases, Microsoft has developed a Compatibility Pack for the Office Word, Office Excel, and Office PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. By installing the Compatibility Pack along side of Microsoft Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, save, and create files using the Open XML Formats new to the 2007 Microsoft Office system. The Compatibility Pack is located here.

What happens to my auto-archive settings when I upgrade to Outlook 2007?
The upgrade job will transfer over auto-archive settings from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007. To verify or change your auto-archive settings in Outlook 2007

Click Tools -> scroll down and click options -> select the Other tab -> click the auto-archive button

Verify that these settings meet Information Services recommended configuration.

Right click on the icon and select delete. However, be aware that once you delete the icon, IS will not deploy another one to your desktop/laptop. In the future if you want to install Office 2007 you will have do so from the campus connect package.
