Conservationists gather at DePaul for screening of ‘Green Fire’ film

CHICAGO — Conservation biologist and film director Curt Meine will speak at DePaul University after a screening of his documentary, “Green Fire,” as part of a series of Earth Week events on campus. The film documents the work of Aldo Leopold, an ecologist who many consider the father of wildlife management in the U.S. The screening and a panel discussion will be held April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. on DePaul’s Lincoln Park Campus in McGowan South, Room 108, 1110 W. Belden Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Meine earned his undergraduate degrees in English and history from DePaul and now serves as director for conservation biology and history with the Center for Humans and Nature. Other experts in environmental preservation will join Meine on the panel, including Laurel Ross of Chicago Wilderness, Gavin Van Horn of the Center for Humans and Nature, and Shawn Bailey with the DePaul Department of Environmental Science and Studies.

DePaul’s Fair Trade Committee will host Fashion Revolution, an organization that raises awareness about fair labor practices and sourcing in the garment industry, from cotton production to the people sewing your clothes.
