The Naperville Campus of DePaul University is schedule to reopen at noon today, Tuesday, Jan. 14, after being shuttered yesterday due to a crack in a pipe and subsequent steam leak. Classes tonight are scheduled to resume.

Repairs were started yesterday by the building’s owner, BP, and concluded early this morning. “The HVAC system has been running since 5 a.m. and we will are planning to reopen and resume activities at noon,” reported Rosemary Skoczylas, business manager and coordinator for suburban campuses.

The Naperville Campus coordinator reported this evening that repairs are underway and are expected to be completed late tonight. Building operations personnel will then slowly return the steam system to service in a controlled manner — continuously evaluating the integrity of the repairs, according to Kurtis Todd at the Naperville Campus.

BP, which owns the building, is expected to initiate the HVAC and all that is needed to get the system up and running early tomorrow morning, reported Rosemary Skoczylas, business manager and coordinator for suburban campuses. “We will know tomorrow morning after further testing whether we can reopen the Naperville Campus for Tuesday evening classes,” she said.

Students, faculty and staff are asked to check for updates late Tuesday morning for updates. “If we have information sooner, we’ll update the home page,” said Bob Janis, vice president of Facility Operations.

DePaul University cancels classes only on Naperville Campus for Jan. 13
Steam leak in Building 200 requires facility closure

NAPERVILLE — Due to a crack in a pipe and subsequent steam leak and the shutdown of the HVAC system in Building 200 on the Naperville Campus, DePaul University has canceled classes only on that campus for this evening, Jan. 13. Faculty and employees who were on the Naperville Campus were sent home this morning. Faculty and staff scheduled to be on campus this evening do not need to report to work.

It is unknown how quickly the repair will be completed, according to Rosemary Skoczylas, business manager and coordinator for suburban campuses. Students, faculty and staff should check for updates on the status of classes for tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 14, by visiting the DePaul home page, www.depaul.edu.

This closure affects only the Naperville Campus, at 150 W. Warrenville Road, Skoczylas noted. That facility is owned by BP. All other DePaul University campuses are open and classes are in session.
