DePaul Theatre School among world’s best: Hollywood Reporter

CHICAGO—The Theatre School at DePaul University has been named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Best Drama Schools in the World, sharing the spotlight with such notables asThe Julliard School, Yale School of Drama, and the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Australia.

Citing its “6-to-1 faculty-student ratio” and noting that it “draws strength from Chicago’s hot drama scene,” The Hollywood Reporter ranked The Theatre School number 17 on its latest list. This marks the second consecutive year DePaul’s program has been recognized among the best by the weekly magazine, which offers in-depth coverage of Hollywood and the entertainment industry.

Among the many Theatre School alumni to earn acclaim in the world of entertainment are actors Gillian Anderson, Joe Mantegna, Elizabeth Perkins and John C. Reilly.

The Hollywood Reporter distinction comes as The Theatre School prepares to move into newly constructed facilities this fall. Designed by world renowned architect Cesar Pelli, and his firm Pelli Clark Pelli, the new building will include two theatre spaces – a 250-seat theatre and a 100-seat, flexible black box theatre – along with custom designed areas for makeup, prop and scene shops, rehearsal studios, lighting laboratories, and new-media workshops. The new theatre facility, along with DePaul’s recently built Art Museum structure and planned new School of Music building, will become part of DePaul’s future Fullerton arts corridor.
