DePaul accounting educator to travel to Russia on Fulbright award
CHICAGO — For the second time, John Ahern, an accounting
educator at DePaul University, was selected to be a Fulbright Scholar in Russia.
This time he will spend approximately five months teaching financial accounting
and auditing courses to Russian college students at Kazan Federal University.
“It is a great honor to be selected as a Fulbright Scholar
and be assigned to the Russian Federation,” said Ahern, an associate professor
in the School of Accountancy and Management Information Systems in DePaul’s
100-year-old Driehaus College of Business.
“Russian universities are among the finest in the world,
with a rich history of research and teaching,” said Ahern, who has been on
faculty at DePaul since 1973. “I am looking forward to working alongside such
outstanding students and scholars.”
Ahern previously taught as a Fulbright Scholar at Kazan Federal
University in 1995-96. His areas of expertise include financial accounting,
auditing and attestation, forensic accounting and online instruction. Ahern received
his bachelor’s degree and MBA in accountancy from DePaul, and his doctorate in
business administration in accountancy and monetary economics from University
of Kentucky.
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program sends an estimated 800
American scholars and professionals per year to about 130 countries, where they
lecture and/or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional
fields, according to the Fulbright website.
Kevin Stevens, director of DePaul’s School of Accountancy,
said Ahern’s appointment will help grow DePaul’s global presence and
collaboration.
“Professor Ahern’s trip to Russia expands opportunities for
all students by encouraging Russian students to come to DePaul to study and
encouraging our students and faculty to travel to this key part of the world,”
Stevens said.
