Princeton Review ranks video game design program at DePaul among US best

CHICAGO – DePaul University’s graduate video game design program was ranked among the best in the nation March 12 by the Princeton Review in its fourth annual report naming the schools with the best programs. DePaul’s undergraduate program also received an honorable mention and was among the 50 schools saluted by the Princeton Review “for their commitment to this professional field.”

DePaul’s Master of Science in Game Development was ranked No. 15 in the Princeton Review report, ”Top Schools to Study Video Game Design for 2013.” The report was based on a survey the education services company conducted in 2012-2013 of 150 programs at universities and colleges across the U.S and Canada that offered programs in video game design.

“I am pleased to see DePaul University rank among the best programs in the nation for video game design. Our graduate students have gone on to important positions in game development in Chicago and nationally,” said David Miller, dean of the College of Computing and Digital Media.

“Chicago has a significant history of game development and DePaul wants to continue to keep our city at the forefront of innovation in the gaming industry,” Miller said.

The Princeton Review, one of the nation’s best-known education services company, joined with PC Gamer, a monthly magazine featuring news on developments in the video game industry, as its reporting partner on this project. PC Gamer has a special feature on the list in its May issue that cites Ed Keenan as a prominent professor at DePaul and Nick Ehrlich as a prominent alumnus. Before joining DePaul University as an instructor, Keenan was executive technology director at Midway Games in Chicago. Ehrlich, now with Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, formerly was the COO at Robomodo.

DePaul’s College of Computing and Digital Media offers a diverse program of practical and cutting-edge study, including degrees in computer science, digital cinema, network security and computer game development. Its graduate school is one of the largest of its kind in the nation.

The college includes the School of Computing, and the School of Cinema and Interactive Media. More information is online at cdm.depaul.edu.
