DePaul University School For New Learning Celebrates 40 Years of Student Success
DePaul University School For New Learning Celebrates 40 Years of Student Success
DePaul University’s School for New Learning (SNL) celebrates
40 years of teaching adults through a unique approach to learning that offers a
range of customized programs that build upon abilities and experiences, add
knowledge and develop skills to help students achieve personal and professional
goals.
As part of its celebration, SNL will launch the “Photobooth
Project” this fall. The photo exhibit is a collection of alumni portraits and
quotes that highlight the impact SNL has made on their lives. The exhibit will
open at SNL’s Open House on Oct. 12, in the lobby area of the school’s offices
at Richard M. and Maggie C. Daley Building, 14 E. Jackson Blvd., 14th floor,
from 4:30-6 p.m. as part of SNL’s Family and Reunion Weekend. An employability
summit also will take place at the open house.
SNL Dean Marisa Alicea reflected on SNL’s 40-year history.
“We have been able to continue to offer our competence-based program and have
added programs since the creation of the school. We’re celebrating some of the
core ideas and values of our school, which serves adult students and honors
their knowledge, experience and new learning that add value to their personal
lives and careers.”
For four decades, SNL has been making a difference in the
lives of adult learners. Founded in 1972 by the school’s first dean, Howard
Sulkin, together with associate dean Marilyn Stocker and secretary Ann Kurland,
SNL has been an international model of adult centered education.
SNL will hold additional events that celebrate the work of
faculty and staff throughout the academic year to commemorate 40 years of adult
student success. For more information, visit snl.depaul.edu/40.

curricula and degree programs. One of SNL’s most unique features is that it
