DePaul University Experts Available to Comment on Chicago Public Schools Teachers' Strike
DePaul University faculty experts are available to provide expert commentary on the Chicago Public Schools teachers’ strike, including labor negotiations, economic impact on Chicago, conflict resolution, the teacher evaluation plan and longer school day.

Diane Horwitz, adjunct faculty, College of Education. She can discuss the proposed CPS evaluation plan for teachers, including research on the use of student-growth scores in teacher evaluations, the implications for curriculum and the hasty implementation of a complex process. Andrea Kayne Kaufman, associate professor, College of Education. An expert in school law and school negotiations, she can discuss the school collective bargaining process, including the issues, the impasse, the negotiations, the strike and resolution. She teaches courses in School Law and Conflict Resolution to graduate students (mostly full-time teachers) seeking state certification to be school administrators. Emily Rosenberg, director, DePaul Labor Education Center. Rosenberg can discuss labor unions, strikes, the history of the union movement, trends in labor, leadership training, collective bargaining, arbitration, labor organizing and public sector unions. Marc Wigler, adjunct faculty, College of Education. Wigler has negotiated two contracts with CPS and worked under the previous CTU administration for six years. His labor-management collaboration skills have been recognized both locally and nationally in helping to bring about school reform. Having worked with the now-Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, Wigler brings a unique perspective to the table, having worked on both sides of labor and management. He has been a CPS employee for the last 18 years, teaching kindergarten for 10 years and having just finished working in the Office of Early Childhood Education for the last two years.
