DePaul Ranked Among Top Producers of Minority Degrees

DePaul has been named in numerous categories in the annual “Top 100 Producers of Minority Degrees” by Diverse Issues In Higher Education magazine, including the top spot in two categories.

DePaul was ranked first in the nation in master’s degrees earned by all minority groups in the area of computer and information sciences. DePaul also topped the list of computer and information sciences master’s degrees issued to Asian American students. It was second nationally in computer and information sciences master’s degrees awarded to African Americans and computer and information sciences and support services master’s degrees earned by Hispanic students.

“The College of Computing and Digital Media has long been a leader in helping students from diverse backgrounds achieve their academic goals,” says David Miller, dean on the College of Computing and Digital Media. “I am gratified that we continue to build on this history.”

The university was ranked 11th overall for undergraduate marketing degrees earned by all minority groups and 18th in undergraduate finance degrees earned by all minority groups. DePaul had 21 programs listed among the Top 20.

Each year, Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine examines and ranks institutions of higher learning that confer the most degrees to minority students.

“These rankings demonstrate DePaul’s commitment to recruiting and, more importantly, graduating diverse students,” says Liz Ortiz, vice president for the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity.

“It’s encouraging to see this sort of performance in so many areas,” says Brian Spittle, assistant vice president and head of DePaul’s Center for Access and Attainment, which helps students of color achieve college educations. “While the explanations are going to be slightly different in different programs, they are all grounded in an institution-wide commitment to improving student success.”
