DePaul University Law Student Named Illinois Veteran of the Month

The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs has honored Daniel Sylvester, a DePaul University law student and U.S Army veteran, as “Veteran of the Month.”

“It is an honor to be recognized,” Sylvester said, adding that “there are so many veterans who are not recognized who need support.”

Sylvester was recognized this month for his activism and efforts, which have spanned the many needs of veterans. He has worked with votevets.org and the Truman National Security Project to lobby Congress on veteran issues and national security.

He organized two “Hobbies for Heroes” events to provide crafts for veterans at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, a “Wool for Warriors” drive to collect wool socks for homeless veterans and a “Veteran’s Week” at the College of Law where guest speakers engaged students on the issues facing veterans.  Sylvester says he hopes to start a veteran’s legal clinic at DePaul.
