DePaul Is Top University in Magazine’s Workplace Diversity Rankings

DePaul University is No.  19 in Diversity MBA Magazine’s annual 50 Out Front for Diversity Leadership, the top ranking achieved by an institution of higher learning. The rankings focused on workplace diversity and leadership opportunities for people of color at a wide range of for- and non-profit organizations.

University of Florida was No. 43, University of Houston was No. 45, UCLA was No. 46 and Yale University No. 48. Accenture was the No. 1 company in this year’s ranking.

“We continue to do well in this survey,” said Elizabeth Ortiz, DePaul’s vice president for the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity. “I would like to see us in the top 10 next year, but in order to do so we know that there is more work to be done here.  We are building a series of best practices and measures of excellence to help us reach that goal.” What is especially gratifying, said Ortiz, is that the ranking is a quantitative instrument based on a 60-question survey.

The ranking for the 50 Out Front Companies 2012 list has expanded its research evaluations to include organizations that implement intentional strategies based on accountability, succession planning, representation, workplace inclusion, recruitment and board diversity that allows and encourage managers and women of diverse backgrounds to excel and develop into leadership roles.

Pam McElvane, MBA Magazine CEO and publisher, said, “We have strived for the past five years to establish benchmark metrics that are meaningful and sustainable for corporate America to support their efforts in establishing programs that will create access for women and people of color to move into the top leadership roles.”
