DePaul Recognized for Diversity in Recent Rankings

DePaul’s commitment to diversity has been honored in three recent national rankings. The Princeton Review, Diverse Issues in Higher Education and Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education all recognized DePaul in their current surveys.

Princeton Review surveyed the nation’s top 376 colleges, asking students to rate their schools on dozens of topics and report on their campus experiences. DePaul ranked 15th nationally for having “lots of race/class interaction” and 11th for being located in a great college town. Diverse Issues ranked DePaul among the top 100 institutions in the nation for conferring bachelor’s and graduate degrees upon students of color. The rankings reflect degrees earned during the 2009-2010 academic year. 
  
DePaul was cited in more than 40 undergraduate and graduate categories by Diverse Issues. Highlights included:

In computer and information sciences and support services, DePaul ranked among the top five institutions for awarding master’s degrees to students of color. 

In marketing, DePaul ranked among the top 10 for awarding bachelor’s degrees to minorities. 

In the English language and literature/letters category, DePaul ranked among the top 15 for awarding master’s degrees to students of color. 

In the finance and financial management services category, DePaul ranked among the top 15 for awarding bachelor’s degrees to students of color.  

In psychology, DePaul ranked among the top 20 for awarding doctorate degrees to African-Americans. 

In accounting and related services, the survey ranked DePaul among the top 20 institutions awarding bachelor’s degrees to students of color.

In law, DePaul ranked among the top 25 for awarding degrees to Hispanics and African-Americans.

In liberal arts and sciences and general studies, DePaul ranked among the top 25 for awarding undergraduate degrees to African-Americans.

In Hispanic Outlook’s ranking of the top 100 four-year colleges in the United States to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees to Hispanics, the magazine ranked DePaul No. 53 for awarding 30 doctoral degrees, No. 60 for awarding 2,648 master’s degrees and No. 73 for awarding 3,324 bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics. The survey was based on 2010 graduation data. More detailed rankings can be found at http://www.hispanicoutlook.com/top-100-schools/.

With more than 25,000 students, DePaul is the largest Catholic university in the nation and the largest private, nonprofit college in the Midwest. Its student body reflects a broad range of ethnic, religious, geographic and economic backgrounds.
 
Minority students accounted for at least 30 percent of total enrollment for the 2010-2011 academic year. The university enrolled 2,981 (12 percent) Latino/Hispanic students, 2,180 (8.7 percent) African-American students, 1,812 (7.2 percent) Asian students, 341 (1.4 percent) multiracial students and 87 (0.3 percent) Pacific Islanders. The student body includes 16,052 undergraduate students, 8,017 graduate students and 1,076 law students.
