Social Media And Web Trends Expert Amber MacArthur Discusses The Facebook Generation At DePaul April 5

New media journalist, podcaster and consultant Amber MacArthur will discuss "Inside the Facebook Generation–The Unspoken Rules" at DePaul University April 5. Sponsored by DePaul’s Department of Management, the free, public talk will begin at noon in Room 8005 of the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago.

An authoritative voice on social media and Web trends, Amber Mac, as she is known to her legion of fans, will discuss how to communicate with the Facebook generation, on their terms, in order to effectively market to them. She also will explore how businesses can better understand, recruit and retain workers from this technologically savvy generation.

As a journalist working in multiple media, MacArthur has traced the profound ways in which emerging technologies are changing how we live, work and play. The Toronto-based MacArthur has covered new media as a reporter and host of numerous technology programs on the Canadian television networks CBC, CityTV and G4techTV. As a podcaster, she hosts "commandN", a popular weekly video podcast; co-hosts "Inside the Net," an influential weekly audio podcast with tech guru Leo Laporte; and "Webnation," which won the 2007 iTunes Top New Podcast award. She also hosts and produces a show called "Girls Go Geek" on Xbox LIVE. MacArthur’s book, "Power Friending: Demystifying Social Media to Grow Your Business," is scheduled for release this June.

MacArthur previously worked as a key strategist for Razorfish and as a Web trends consultant for Microsoft, Adobe, HP and Bell. She also was the Web communications director at HigherMarkets and is a co-founder of Arktyp, which designed TWiT.tv, one of the first and most influential podcast networks in the world. Recently, she was hired by motivational speaker Tony Robbins to oversee the strategic direction for his new social networking site.
