DePaul University’s College of Law Recognized for Producing “Super Lawyers” In New Law School Ranking

The DePaul University College of Law has been distinguished  among the nation’s top 50 producers of “super lawyers” in the 2010 Super Lawyers U.S. Law School Rankings by Minneapolis-based publisher Law & Politics.   According to the survey, DePaul’s law school placed 45th of 180  law schools ranked in the publication’s first annual survey.  Among law schools in Chicago, DePaul’s law school was ranked ahead of  Loyola University School of Law (60), Chicago-Kent College of Law (101) and  The John Marshall Law School (90).

There are about 450 DePaul law graduates  identified as super lawyers by “Super Lawyers” magazine and on its Web site at http: //www.superlawyers.com/. The magazine, which reaches more than 13 million readers, recognized as super lawyers such DePaul alumni as Philip H. Corboy Jr. of Corboy & Demetrio, Larry R. Rogers Sr. of Power, Rogers & Smith, and John B. Simon of Jenner & Block.

“This is the first law school ranking that is focused on what graduates have accomplished as a result of their legal education,” said Warren Wolfson, interim dean of  the DePaul College of Law.   “DePaul is proud of the contributions its graduates have made to the legal profession, and we are pleased that this survey recognizes it.”

The rankings were based on the number of graduates of a particular law school who were  selected by their peers for inclusion in the publication “Super Lawyers” during 2009.  According to the magazine, super lawyers are outstanding attorneys from more than 70 practice areas. Each has  attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.

Established in 1912, DePaul’s College of Law enrolled 1,078 students for the fall 2009-10 academic year.    Its research centers and institutes focus on issues such as health law, international human rights law, intellectual property, law and science, death penalty defense, animal law, international aviation law, family law, public interest law, international weapons control and dispute resolution.  Included among DePaul’s alumni are state and federal judges, municipal, county and state leaders and two generations of Chicago mayors.
