Brett Hammond, managing director and chief investment strategist for TIAA-CREF Asset Management, which maintains a system of 27,000 retirement plans and $363 million in assets for 3.6 million active and retired employees (18,000 of them in the Chicago-area) in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields nationally
