DePaul's World Catholicism Center Fellow To Discuss Role Of The Catholic Church On The African Continent At May 6 Lecture

The continent of Africa is challenged by a sea of social woes, yet many religious scholars view problems such as civil war, poverty, genocide and the AIDS crisis through a lens of hope. DePaul University’s Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology (CWCIT) will present a lecture on this topic by Emmanuel Katongole, senior research fellow, at 7 p.m. May 6 at McGowan South, 1036 W. Belden Ave., Room 108.

“The Sacrifice of Africa: The Catholic Re-imagination of a Continent in Distress” is free and open to the public.

Katongole is a professor of theology and world Christianity at the Duke University Divinity School. A native of Uganda, he is a Catholic priest of the Kampala Archdiocese.

CWCIT aims to further DePaul’s Catholic and Vincentian identity and to enrich academic quality by promoting research in world Catholicism. The center director is Peter Casarella, professor of Catholic studies. For more information about the center’s programs, contact Francis Salinel at
