DePaul University Appoints Patricia O’Donoghue Vice President for Alumni Outreach and Engagement

Patricia O’Donoghue, a professor, clinician and former president of Mount Mary College, has been appointed vice president for Alumni Outreach and Engagement at DePaul University.

O’Donoghue served as president of Mount Mary in Milwaukee from 1997 to 2006. She was vice president for Academic Affairs and professor of nursing at La Roche College in Pittsburgh from 1995 to 1997 and was provost and executive vice president at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, from 1992 to 1997.

“Pat O’Donoghue has an extraordinary record of insightful and effective leadership in higher education, and I am proud that she is joining our team,” said the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president of DePaul. “Pat’s experience leading a number of innovative programs of outreach and community building will serve DePaul well as we extend our vibrant relationships with our alumni and other constituencies.”

For her part, O’Donoghue said she was drawn to DePaul because “it is one of a small number of private urban universities that has been able to successfully blend broad educational opportunity and service with consistent academic excellence. I believe deeply in this mission, and I am happy to be a part of building upon it.”

O’Donoghue’s appointment to the newly created post marks DePaul’s commitment to uniting and enhancing vigorous programs of outreach to alumni, parents and other university stakeholders, said Mary Finger, senior vice president for Advancement at DePaul. “Pat O’Donoghue will bring under one structure a number of exciting initiatives designed to invite and energize engagement of key constituencies in programming, communications and fundraising.”

O’Donoghue is a scholar and teacher with wide clinical and research experience. She served as the founding faculty of the School Nurse Practitioner Program at Carlow and held clinical and faculty positions at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh, Magee-Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

O’Donoghue, who holds a doctorate in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, has served on the boards of many nonprofit schools and organizations, including the Foundation for Independent Higher Education, the Women’s College Coalition, the Rwanda Foundation and the American Council on Education Commission on Women in Higher Education.
