James C. Tyree, chairman and chief executive officer of Mesirow Financial, will discuss career and industry trends at DePaul University’s Loop Campus Jan. 30. Part of the Storytellers Series sponsored by the DePaul MBA Association, the free public event begins at 5:30 p.m. in Room 8005 of the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago.
Tyree joined Mesirow Financial, a diversified financial services firm headquartered in Chicago, in 1980 and was appointed chairman and CEO in 1994. He founded Mesirow Financial’s private equity division and has led the firm to unprecedented levels of growth in all areas of the business. Founded in 1937, Mesirow Financial is a privately held company with more than 1,100 employees in offices across the country and in London serving the financial needs of institutions, public sector entities, corporations and individuals.
Tyree has served on more than 50 corporate, civic and not-for-profit boards of directors. He was appointed chairman of the board of the City Colleges of Chicago by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000. In 2004, he was named Person of the Year by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He earned his bachelor’s degree and MBA from Illinois State University.
