DePaul University Names Filmmaker Steven A. Jones As Producer-in-Residence

Steven A. Jones, producer of enduring movie cult classics, including “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer” and “Wild Things,” and who has worked with numerous Hollywood legends including Martin Scorcese, Robert DeNiro and Bill Murray, was named producer-in-residence for DePaul University’s Digital Cinema program.

Jones has started teaching courses on producing feature films in the Master of Fine Arts sequence during DePaul’s current winter quarter.

Additionally, DePaul University’s College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) recently added an industry leader, William Muehl, to its computer game development program this fall. The program, part of CDM’s School of Cinema and Interactive Media, is among the fastest-growing in the Midwest.

“These newest members of our team further CDM’s growing reputation for excellent faculty who bring major professional portfolios to their classroom,” said CDM Dean David Miller.

Jones has produced numerous feature films, most recently 2008’s “The Promotion,” starring DePaul Theatre School alumnus John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott. Jones’ producing career was launched with the 1986 cult “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” starring DePaul Theatre School alumnus Michael Rooker.  His credits in the 1990s included the made-in-Chicago “Mad Dog and Glory,” co-produced with Scorcese and starring DeNiro, Murray and Uma Thurman; and 1998’s “Wild Things,” starring Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon and Neve Campbell.  He also produced “The Merry Gentleman,” Michael Keaton’s directorial debut, screened at the Sundance Film Festival last spring and targeted for release in 2009.

“This is an exciting time to be involved in the area of digital media and I look forward to continuing my interaction with the students and faculty of CDM,” Jones said.

Muehl, senior producer at Midway Games, joined DePaul’s program as a lecturer in the fall.  At Midway’s Chicago headquarters, Muehl facilitates the development of globally shared technology, art and design initiatives across six studios and multiple game teams. He served as development director for the central animation, cinema, audio, character, environment, concept and user interface departments for Midway titles including “John Woo Presents: Stranglehold,” “Mortal Kombat: Armageddon” and “NBA Ballers.” Prior to joining Midway, William was a producer at High Voltage Software and an online analyst at Sony Computer Entertainment America. At DePaul, he is teaching a course in game production.
