DePaul Authors Series Attracts Christian Voices in Literature

“Writing and the Catholic Imagination” is the title of a DePaul University lecture series that will continue April 24 with a talk by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marilynne Robinson at 7 p.m. in the Student Center, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Room 120.

Robinson is the author of the novels “Housekeeping” (1980) and “Gilead” (2004), which won the 2004 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She teaches at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is currently on sabbatical to complete her third novel.

Ron Hansen, author of “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (1983), will speak May 8 at 7 p.m. in Cortelyou Commons, 2324 N. Fremont St.

Often associated with his most popular novel about the iconic outlaw, Hansen is the author of nine books, including “Hitler’s Niece” (1999), “Atticus” (1996) and “Mariette in Ecstasy” (1991). His novels and short stories draw upon Catholic themes of unconditional love, redemption and resurrection. His latest novel, “Exile,” details the life of Jesuit poet Gerard Manley Hopkins and will be released in May.

The lectures are sponsored by the university’s Catholic Studies program and are free and open to the public.
