DePaul's College of Communication Probes Election Matters at Forum Featuring Veteran Journalist Walter Jacobson

Veteran journalist Walter Jacobson will join DePaul University students and moderator Laura Washington in the first of a series of forums, “Media Matters: The ’08 Race,” Jan. 29 at Lewis Hall, 25 E. Jackson Blvd., Room 241, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Questions to be examined include: “Was there a Democratic ringer at the Republican YouTube debate?,” “Does race belong in the race?,” “Tears or Fears” (in reference to Hillary Clinton’s public display of emotion) and “Who was behind the New Hampshire polling debacle?”

Washington, DePaul’s Ida B. Wells-Barnett University Professor and Chicago Sun-Times columnist, will serve as moderator while four communication students will pose questions to Jacobson and engage him in a lively debate. Participants will be: Brooke Anderson, graduate student; Clark Jones, graduate student; Scott Bolohan, junior; and Giovanna Teolis, senior.

Jacobson began his journalism career 41 years ago at Chicago’s City News Bureau and has more than 35 years of television news experience. He began his anchor career at WBBM-TV with Bill Kurtis in 1973 and has worked as a political reporter and commentator at WMAQ-TV and WFLD-TV. A Chicago Journalism Hall of Famer, Jacobson has reportedly won more journalism awards than any other television news anchor in the history of Chicago television news. He retired from WFLD in 2006 and occasionally contributes political commentary on WMAQ and WLS television and WVON-AM radio.

A College of Communication-sponsored event, the forum is free and open to the public.
