DePaul Sponsors Panel Discussion On Risk Management And Financial Bubbles

“Systemic Risk - Financial Bubbles and Fads” will be the subject of a panel discussion sponsored by DePaul University’s Fred Arditti Center for Risk Management Nov. 7. The free, public event will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 8005 of the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd.

Three prominent finance executives will lend their expertise to the discussion:

  • Mark C. Kulpins, vice president, Mesirow Advanced Strategies Inc., a firm recognized as a pioneer and international leader in fund of hedge funds management. Mesirow Advanced Strategies Inc manages approximately $13 billion in assets.

  • Sharath Sury, chief executive officer, S4 Capital, which was rated the No. 1 U.S. wealth manager in both 2007 and 2006 by Wealth Manager Magazine. An expert in the fields of portfolio theory and risk budgeting, Sury is trusted adviser to some of the nation’s wealthiest family groups and private organizations. He also is an adjunct professor of finance at DePaul, where he teaches investment theory and portfolio management.

  • Jennifer Bender, vice president, Applied Research, MSCI Barra. A practitioner and academic, Bender provides portfolio management and risk-related research for asset owners and investment managers. She has held research assistantships at Harvard Business School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research focuses on risk management and portfolio theory, investor behavior, market microstructure, market efficiency and asset pricing.

    The Fred Arditti Center for Risk Management at DePaul’s College of Commerce was launched with a $1 million grant from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Trust in 2006. The center promotes excellence in teaching and research in the fields of risk and financial management and commemorates the work of the late futures industry pioneer Fred Arditti, a CME executive and 15-year DePaul finance faculty member, who died in 2005.
