DePaul Digital Cinema Professor Featured on National Geographic Channel’s Popular “Dog Whisperer” Show Nov. 20

A professor in DePaul University’s groundbreaking Digital Cinema program will be featured on a popular national cable television show Nov. 20.

Lou Kleinman, visiting associate professor, will be spotlighted along with his wife, Diana, and their dog, Maya, on “The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan” on the National Geographic Channel. The program is slated to air at 8 p.m. Chicago time.

Kleinman was selected to appear on the program after submitting an audition video created with the same digital technology used by students enrolled in his courses. The video featured Maya, the border collie-Springer spaniel mix, cavorting around and outside the family’s North Side home.

No stranger to television, Kleinman is a two-time Emmy Award winning sound and dialogue editor for his work on NBC’s “ER” and HBO’s “And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself.” His feature film credits include his work on Oscar-winning crews for “Raging Bull,” “Braveheart” and “Gladiator,” as well as sound work on films such as “The Bourne Identity,” “The Devil’s Advocate” and “Heat.” He joined the faculty at DePaul earlier this year.

Part of DePaul’s School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems, the Digital Cinema program was launched in 2004 with the recognition that digital technology is now a core element in the art and craft of cinema. Offering two bachelor’s degrees and the Midwest’s first graduate degree options, the program is the most comprehensive of its kind, representing a convergence of cinema, technology, animation and gaming. To date, the university has invested more than $3 million in the program’s high-tech production capabilities.

The National Geographic Channel airs in Chicago on Comcast Cable Channel 273, DirectTV Channel 276 and Dish Network Channel 186.
