DePaul In The News

Recent media stories featuring DePaul University’s achievements, programs and community involvement include:

  • A front page, Nov. 3 Chicago Tribune Tempo story featured DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus and senior Alexis Presseau and examined the critical role student ambassadors play in new student recruitment.

  • Assistant Professor of Finance Jonathan Dombrow was quoted extensively, and the Real Estate Center at DePaul was prominently highlighted in a page-one Nov. 3 Chicago Sun-Times story in the real estate section.

  • The Sun-Times, WBBM-AM, WBEZ and seven television stations covered the DePaul College Democrats’ Nov. 1 “Get Out the Vote” rally with Ill. Sen. Dick Durbin and Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean. The event was also extensively featured in national news coverage.

  • The Tribune featured University Center in a Nov. 1 story about Mayor Richard Daley’s hopes to build more dorms in the downtown area. University Center was also mentioned in an Oct. 12 Dow Jones MarketWatch story about stunning residence halls.

  • DePaul’s three new members of the Board of Trustees – James L. Czech, Daniel C. Ustian and Joanne Velasquez – were mentioned in the Oct. 30 Sun-Times “Appointments” column. Also listed in the column was DePaul’s appointment of James D. Shilling to the new Michael J. Horne chair in real estate studies.

  • Psychology Professor Jane Halpert was quoted in an Oct. 30 Crain's Chicago Business story about gender balance in the workplace.

  • DePaul’s recent achievements in diversity management were highlighted in a news story in the Oct. 30 edition of The Daily Herald. David Kalsbeek, vice president for enrollment management, was quoted on DePaul’s commitment on the issue.

  • A DePaul School of Music performance, a tribute to Mozart’s 250th birthday, was mentioned in the “Weekend Jaunts: Saturday Edition” of the Chicagoist Oct. 28. The performance was also mentioned in a “things to do this weekend” Crain’s Chicago Business story Oct. 26.

  • DePaul School of Music faculty member Cathy Ann Elias, an expert on the Beatles, was interviewed for the hour-long documentary “Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us” that was broadcast on the A&E network Oct. 28.

  • Law Professor Alberto Coll was profiled in an Oct. 27 Chicago Daily Law Bulletin story about the new leadership of DePaul’s International Human Rights Law Institute.

  • DePaul CTI Professor Jacob Furst, an expert on Internet security, was interviewed in an Oct. 27 Tribune story about the computer hacking of a DuPage election Web site.

  • Law Professor Patty Gerstenblith was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article about the J. Paul Getty Museum and its decision to tighten its acquisition standards Oct. 27. She also was quoted in a New York Times Oct. 18 story about Chinese art imports.

  • The DePaul Journalism Challenge symposium, held on Oct. 24, generated on-line coverage by the media writer at USA Today and the Poynter Institute, the leading Web site for journalists in the U.S.

  • Michael Bennett, director of DePaul’s Egan Urban Center, was quoted in an Oct. 23 Crain’s Chicago Business story about Chicago’s empowerment zone program.

  • Marketing Professor Bruce Newman was quoted in an Oct. 21 News&Observer story about politicians and the color of the ties they choose to wear. He also was interviewed for an Oct. 8 Daily Herald story about U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

  • Rev. James Halstead, chair of DePaul’s religious studies program, was quoted in a Washington Post story about the rise of books on atheism on best-seller lists Oct. 18.

  • Joe Schwieterman, professor of public policy and director of DePaul’s Chaddick Institute, was quoted in an Oct. 18 Columbus Dispatch story about airline fares and consumer habits. He also was interviewed on WBBM-AM Oct. 12 about a New York City plane accident and an Oct. 12 Tribune story about zoning.

  • A study of the impact of South Loop universities spearheaded by Tom Fuechtmann, former director of DePaul’s Community and Government Relations Office, was the subject of a feature in the Tribune’s Tempo section Oct. 17. DePaul student Chioma Nwakibu, a resident of University Center, discussed the advantages of living downtown, including greater availability of part-time jobs and internships.

  • Clara Orban, Italian language professor, was quoted in a Quad City Times story about the Hungarian revolution Oct. 15.

  • DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business was ranked the third best MBA program in Chicago by Crain’s Chicago Business Oct. 16.

  • DePaul was included in an Oct. 12 Tribune article about the graduation rate increase for Chicago area students. DePaul has a 76 percent success rate for graduating Chicago students.

  • Economics Professor Thomas Mondschean was quoted in a Northwest Indiana Times story Oct. 12 about high oil prices.

  • DePaul psychologist Susan Dvorak McMahon was quoted in an Oct. 10 Tribune article about the recent school shootings in Colorado and Pennsylvania.

  • Management Professor Lisa Gundry gave advice about how to motivate employees to think innovatively in a Small Business Success magazine story published in October.
