Media Coverage Advisory: Coach Ray Meyer’s Wake March 20 And Funeral March 21 At DePaul University

The following information is for journalists covering Ray Meyer's wake and funeral:

COVERAGE OVERVIEW: Visitation for Ray Meyer, the legendary DePaul Blue Demons men’s basketball coach who died Friday at age 92, will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, March 20, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1010 W. Webster Ave. His funeral will be celebrated at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21.

Journalists may attend Monday’s wake to observe and pay their respects. Media credentials will be required to attend the funeral. Interviews during the wake or funeral must be conducted outside the church in the designated media area. Per the Meyer family’s request, no media cameras will be allowed in the church at any time during the wake or funeral. Pool camera coverage will be available for both the wake and funeral (see below). We also request that the media encourage the general public to pay their respects at Monday’s wake rather than the funeral due to extremely limited space in the church, which will be reserved for his closest friends and colleagues on Tuesday. Please encourage people to use public transportation.

POOL TELEVISION COVERAGE: A pool camera will be set up in the church to provide live broadcast images of the wake and funeral. Media may access the feed via a mult box in the nearby DePaul Student Center, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Room 120. An area for live television truck parking and live shots will be available on Belden Avenue outside of the center, just west of the corner of Sheffield and Belden avenues. This portion of Belden is designated as Honorary Ray Meyer Way. Any media wishing to broadcast the pool feed of the funeral live should contact DePaul Sports Information Director Scott Reed prior to Monday at 10 p.m.

DESIGNATED MEDIA AREA OUTSIDE THE CHURCH: A designated area outside of the Webster Street entrance of the church will be available for media to shoot video and still shots and interview attendees of the wake and funeral. This area will be strictly enforced. We request your full cooperation.

PRESS ROOM: Writers filing stories and photographers who need to transmit images may use Conference Room 200 of the DePaul Athletic Center, 2323 N. Sheffield Ave. Free high-speed wireless Internet will be available.

FUNERAL CREDENTIALS: Due to the limited space inside the church and the large number of people attending the funeral, seating will be by admission ticket only. Each Chicago media outlet will be ALLOWED ONLY ONE SEAT in the church in a specially designated media section. Please call Scott Reed with the name of your media representative and he will provide credential information.

OVERFLOW ROOM: Media are welcome to observe the wake and funeral in the overflow room in the DePaul Student Center, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Room 120, where 500 general public seats will available on a first come, first serve basis. Attendees will be able to view the funeral via closed circuit television.

PARKING: Parking will be free to all patrons in the Sheffield Parking Facility, 2331 N. Sheffield Ave., and the Clifton Parking Deck, 2330 N. Clifton Ave., and all surface lots on DePaul’s Lincoln Park Campus. The lot behind the church is reserved for the Meyer family. Except for live television vehicles on Belden Avenue, there will be no street parking for a two block radius of the church during the funeral.
