Distinguished Journalists/Authors Join DePaul’s Ida B. Wells-Barnett University Professor In A Media Roundtable Nov. 7

A notable panel of journalists and authors will join DePaul University’s Ida B. Wells-Barnett University Professor Laura S. Washington for the latest in the “Reporters on the Record” roundtable discussion series from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Schmitt Academic Center, 2320 N. Kenmore Ave., Room 154.

The discussion will focus on the questions “Who is Qualified to Tell the African American Story?” and “Can and Should Black Writers Define the Challenges of Their Race?” Participants will include: Chris Benson, associate professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, former editor at Ebony magazine and co-author of “Death of Innocence: The Story of a Hate Crime that Changed America”; Yolanda Joe, former news writer for WBBM-TV and best selling author of “He Say, She Say” and other novels; David Thigpen, Time magazine correspondent and author of “Jam Master Jay: the Heart of Hip Hop”; Rita Whack, Emmy-winning television producer, radio contributor and author of “Meant to Be.” Washington, an award-winning editor and a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, will moderate the discussion. An expert on media coverage and issues, including journalistic ethics and investigative reporting, Washington is also a fellow of the university’s Humanities Center.
