DePaul University To Host “Chemistry Day” In Chicago, Oct. 15

DePaul University is this year’s host site for the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) annual “Chemistry Day,” a free, hands-on science fair, to be held from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Oct. 15 on the Lincoln Park Campus in several locations. Visitors should check in at the Schmitt Academic Center, 2320 N. Kenmore Ave., at the registration table in the first-floor hallway.

More than 1,000 students from grade school through the college level, as well as parents, are expected to participate in the daylong event that includes chemistry experiment demonstrations, poetry and poster-making contests and a glass blowing demonstration. DePaul’s Chemistry Club members and department faculty will be on hand in the university’s state-of-the art chemistry laboratories to answer questions and provide information to prospective students about careers in chemistry.

“Chemistry Day” began in 1986 as a way for the ACS and the chemical industry to engage colleges and universities in a celebration of the field. Past sites for “Chemistry Day” include the Museum of Science and Industry, Adler Planetarium, Loyola University Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago. DePaul’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is co-sponsor of this year’s event. For more information about “Chemistry Day” at DePaul, call 773/325-4790. Free on-campus parking is available to “Chemistry Day” guests.
