A colorful spectacle of academic robes and university banners will grace the landscape of DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Campus Sept. 3 when students, faculty and staff set the procession in motion for the annual convocation marking the beginning of the academic year.

The processional will commence at 10 a.m. in Kelly Hall, the main corridor of the Richardson Library, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., and move south, outdoors to St. Vincent Circle on the campus’ quad. Heading the procession will be DePaul’s Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., newly installed president of the largest Catholic university in the country. Holtschneider will be joined, first, by university administration and then by faculty, staff and students as the procession moves south along Kenmore to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1010 W. Webster Ave., where the convocation will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Chicago Brass Quintet comprised of DePaul faculty and students from the School of Music will accompany the processional along the parade route.

John Kozak, executive vice president of academic affairs, will deliver the convocation keynote address. Faculty and staff who distinguished themselves during the year will be recognized. Among them is DePaul’s inaugural group of Vincent de Paul Professors, who have made a commitment to teach and mentor first-year students. Holtschneider, the 11th president of DePaul, will formally address DePaul students, staff and faculty for the first time when he provides the closing remarks and benediction.
