Author John D'Emilio To Speak At DePaul Feb. 5

DePaul University's Humanities Center will host a lecture by John D'Emilio, author of "Lost Prophet: The Life and Times of Bayard Rustin," Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. in Room 161 of Schmitt Academic Center, 2320 N. Kenmore Ave. A book signing and reception will follow.

A finalist for the National Book Award and widely praised in reviews, "Lost Prophet" explores the complicated life of Bayard Rustin, the man behind the 1963 civil rights march on Washington. From his Quaker upbringing and early imprisonment for draft dodging to his role as a strategist to the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the impact of his homosexuality on his career and legacy, the book gives a full account of Rustin's life.

D'Emilio is director of the Gender & Women's Studies program and a professor of history, gender and women's studies at the University of Illinois Chicago.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Humanities Center at 773/325-4580.
