Renowned Educator Asa Hillard To Speak at DePaul Feb. 13

The DePaul University Cultural Center continues its “Ways of Resistance” program series with a lecture by distinguished educator Asa G. Hilliard III, the Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Urban Education at Georgia State University (GSU), at 6 p.m. Feb. 13, in Cortelyou Commons, 2324 N. Fremont St.

Hilliard, who holds joint appointments in the GSU School of Education’s Educational Policy Studies and Educational Psychology/Special Education departments, has written scores of scholarly articles and research reports on school testing, effective teaching strategies and ancient African history. He received a master’s degree in counseling and a doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of Denver. Hilliard’s recent books are “The Maroon Within Us: Selected Essays on African-American Community Socialization” and “The Reawakening of the African Mind.”

The Cultural Center’s “Ways of Resistance” lecture is free and open to the public. Those who plan to attend must make reservations by Feb. 10 by calling 773/325-7759 or by emailing culturalcenter@depaul.edu.
