Violinist Pinchas Zukerman Visits DePaul School of Music

Pinchas Zukerman, the celebrated violinist and conductor of the National Arts Centre of Canada Orchestra, made two visits to conduct master classes for string musicians studying at DePaul University’s School of Music this fall.

One visit was in person -- Zukerman gave pointers on string technique to DePaul graduate music students at the music school Nov. 10. The earlier visit was in electronic form, when Zukerman, performing in Mexico, used the Internet2 computer network to conduct live, interactive music lessons with students from DePaul, a Chicago grammar school and other educational institutions in New York, Mexico and Canada Oct. 31.

School of Music Dean Donald Casey said the master classes were sponsored by DePaul to “not only give students a rare opportunity to study with a master musician, but also inspire other educators to use new technology to connect their students with distinguished artists and thinkers.”
