Laura Washington's First DePaul Speech to Air on CAN-TV

Journalist Laura Washington’s inaugural speech as DePaul University’s Ida B. Wells-Barnett University Professor, “Airing Our Dirty Laundry: It’s Time to Come Clean on Race,” will air over Chicago's Cable Access Network (CAN) Television’s Channel 21 on Nov. 22 at 9 p.m.

The award-winning editor and columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times recently delivered the speech on the university’s Lincoln Park campus before a standing-room-only crowd. Among many points made, Washington told her audience that the news media is conflict-oriented and too eagerly focused on the worst in our society, particularly when it comes to minority coverage.

The lecture will subsequently air Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. on Ch. 19.
