DePaul University Hosts Enterprise Security Seminar Series
A lone hacker or programming flaw can result in a company's Web site being taken over, Internet traffic being slowed to a crawl, and personal identities and information being stolen and used for criminal purposes. In an environment such as this, keeping abreast of industry trends in security has become critical.
That's the purpose behind the Enterprise Security Seminar Series being hosted by DePaul University’s School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems (CTI) in August.
The seminars are free and open to the public. They will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the 8th floor of the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd.
August 15: "Blurring Perimeter Boundaries: Newer Threats to the Enterprise"
Focusing on how newer communication methods have created novel security threats, this session will cover wireless security, remote virtual private network security, viruses, worms, Spyware and Malware. Discussions will explore new technologies and how they expand the scope of traditional considerations for a security manager.
Featured speakers include the following industry experts:
• Matthew Luallen, Cyber Security Program Office, Argonne National Laboratory.
• Sarah Merrion, senior security consultant for Symantec Corporation
• Michael Richardson, senior consultant, Proviti
August 22: "Cyber-Crime: What Your Enterprise Must Know"
The emphasis of this seminar will be how government agencies and legal representation can assist managers in protecting their enterprise. With all of the changes brought about with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the process for law enforcement intervention could be unclear, and this seminar aims to address such issues.
Featured speakers for this session will include:
• Rick Patterson, Secret Service, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
• Robert J. Shields, Jr., supervisory special agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation
• Yvonne S. Sor, special counsel, law firm of McCracken & Frank
Seating is limited at these events, so please call DePaul CTI at 312/362-8714 for reservations or additional information.
