Cardinal George And Richard Devine To Speak At Seminar On Sexual Misconduct Involving Religious Personnel
Program Co-Sponsored by DePaul University and Cook County State’s Attorneys Office
On the heels of a historic gathering of U.S. Catholic bishops to adopt a policy to address sexual misconduct involving minors and religious personnel, the Center for Church/State Studies at DePaul University and the Cook County State’s Attorneys Office will sponsor “Perspectives on Sexual Misconduct With Minors by Religious Personnel.” The daylong seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. June 24 at the University Club of Chicago, 76 E. Monroe St., Michigan Room, 2nd floor.
Cardinal Francis George will give luncheon remarks, and Cook County State’s Attorney Richard Devine will keynote the event. Panel discussions will examine issues related to the victims, religious institutions, civil authorities and members of the clergy, while exploring how each interacts in pursuit of a response to an issue at the forefront of debate today.
Panelists will include:
· Ralph Bonaccorsi, executive director of the Office of Assistance Ministry, Archdiocese of Chicago
· Carroll Craddock, director, behavioral health services, Advocate Illinois Masonic and Advocate Bethany hospitals
· Dr. James Cavanaugh, Jr., director, Isaac Ray Mental Health Center
· Jimmy Lago, chancellor, Archdiocese of Chicago
· Michael J. Waller, Lake County State’s Attorney
· Representatives from the Department of Children and Family Services and the Chicago Police
