Renowned Italian guitarist Maria Vittoria Jedlowski will present a solo recital, “La Chitarra della Luna” (The Guitar of the Moon), at the DePaul School of Music Concert Hall, 800 West Belden Ave., at 8 p.m. April 7.

The concert will feature music by women composers from Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, as well as the works of three Chicago composers from DePaul. The free, public concert is sponsored by the DePaul Women’s Studies Program, with support from the School of Music.

Music by Beatrice Campodonico, Chiara Maresca, Fernand Peyrot, Maria Linnemann, Annette Kruisbrink and Jana Obrovska will be performed. The program also includes “Dark was the Night,” by Janice Misurell-Mitchell, “Night Music I,” by Kurt Westerberg, and “Windpool,” by Kathleen Ginther. Misurell-Mitchell and Westerberg are on the faculty of DePaul’s School of Music. Ginther, a DePaul graduate, teaches at Southern Illinois University.

Born in Milan, Italy, Jedlowski graduated with distinction from the Conservatory of Music in Parma under the guidance of E. Tagliavini. At the same time she received a degree in art at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, with a thesis on the musical writings of Kandinsky. She has performed in concerts throughout Europe and the Middle East, both as a soloist and with various chamber music groups. She is committed to the performance of music by contemporary composers, and some of them have dedicated works to her and to her chamber ensembles. She boasts a repertoire of pieces by contemporary women composers both as a soloist and as part of a duo with the Swiss flutist Rose-Marie Soncini, principal flute with the Orchestra Sinfinica Siciliana.
