BACKGROUND: The video conference linking DePaul students and U.N. ambassadors is one of several distance learning sessions DePaul has conducted since 1998 as part of a unique educational affiliation between the university and the United Nations. The program gives faculty and students an opportunity to learn about international political, economic and legal issues directly from global policymakers through the use of university computer and video technology. Faculty also plan to share tapes of the video conference with students who aren’t able to attend. The program is organized by School for New Learning Professor Pat Szczerba, manager of the United Nations Videoconference Program in DePaul’s Office of Distance Learning.

The Loop Campus session will be moderated by Henry Rodkin, director of the Richard H. Driehaus Center for International Business at DePaul’s College of Commerce. The Lincoln Park Campus session will be led by Thomas Mockaitis, professor of history at DePaul and an expert on terrorism and counter-terrorism.
