Financial Expert Terry Savage, Top Money Managers And Tech Leaders Discuss The Volatile Tech Market At DePaul/LaSalle Bank Event May 18

What can investors expect from the volatile technology market this year?

Finance columnist and author Terry Savage and a panel of top money managers, economists and Chicago-area technology industry experts will provide their forecasts at DePaul University’s “Financial Market Update 2001: Strategies in the Volatile Technology Sector,” May 18 at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk, 151 E. Wacker Drive.

Sponsored by the DePaul Alumni Association, College of Commerce, Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and LaSalle Bank, the event begins with a 7:30 a.m. networking breakfast and will be followed by an 8 a.m. awards presentation. The panel discussion begins at 8:15 a.m. A question-and -answer session will follow the discussion.

Savage will moderate the panel, which will include:

· Carl Tannenbaum, senior vice president and chief economist, LaSalle Bank. Tannenbaum provides internal and external briefings on business conditions for LaSalle Bank, measures its interest rate risk and monitors its investment portfolio.

· Lou Holland, managing partner and chief investment officer of Holland Capital Management Holland is responsible for formulating an economic and financial market outlook for his firm and has experience in equity and fixed income securities research as well as portfolio management.

· David Tolmie, a partner in The Edgewater Funds and former CEO of yesmail.com, a leading Internet e-mail direct marketing provider.

· David Weinstein, former technology advisor to Mayor Richard M. Daley and chief executive officer of BlueMeteor. Weinstein founded the Mayor’s Council of Technology Advisors and directed the city’s implementation of the enterprise resource planning system to replace its disparate legacy systems.

· Olayele Adelakun, assistant professor of computer science at DePaul and an expert in information technology outsourcing.

Savage is a nationally recognized financial authority and television personality. She is the author of “The Savage Truth on Money,” “Terry Savage’s New Money Strategies for the ‘90s” and “Terry Savage Talks Money.”

She writes a weekly syndicated column on personal finance for the Chicago Sun Times and presents financial information online. She is a regular business commentator on PBS’ “Nightly Business Report” and often discusses investments and personal financial planning as a guest expert on CNN, CNBC, “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” “Oprah” and other national broadcasts.

DePaul’s annual College of Commerce Alumni Award of Merit will be presented at 8 a.m. before the panel discussion. The 2001 alumni award will be presented to Arthur I. Farber, managing director of American Express Tax and Business Services, Inc., in Chicago, who is a 1957 graduate of the college and a 1959 alumnus of its MBA program.

DePaul’s Institute for Business and Professional Ethics also will present its annual Ethics Award to a Chicago company that exemplifies good ethical practices. The name of the company chosen will be revealed at the event.
