May 23: The DePaul Symphony Orchestra presents its 25th annual Joseph and Marie Grant Spring Concert. The orchestra will perform “First Essay For Orchestra” by Samuel Barber; “Clarinet Concerto” by Mozart, featuring Larry Combs, Chicago Symphony Orchestra principal clarinetist; and “Symphony No. 4” by Tchaikovsky. June 4: New Music DePaul, DePaul University’s professional contemporary music series, presents a special concert focusing on America's involvement in the Vietnam War. Composer George Flynn will present “American Rest,” his 65-minute composition written in 1975 and recently revised. Performers include: Larry Combs, Chicago Symphony Orchestra principal clarinet; Keith Conant, Lyric Opera of Chicago principal violist; and Chris Costanza, Chicago String Quartet cellist. “Quiet Shadows” by composer and Vietnam veteran Kimo Williams also will be performed. June 7: The DePaul Opera Theatre presents the American premiere of composer Philip Glass’ science fiction opera “The Marriages Between Zones Three, Four and Five,” with libretto by British novelist Doris Lessing and featuring a professional orchestra.
