DePaul Political Science Students to Hold Roundtable Discussion Following Presidential Debate

Democrats, Republicans, Green Party members and Independents – all members of the DePaul University Political Science Association will monitor the second presidential debate Oct. 11 from 7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. in the Stuart Center, 2311 N. Clifton Ave. Following the debate, the group will hold a discussion in which they will evaluate the performance of candidates Al Gore and George W. Bush.

About 50 students are expected to watch the debate and participate in the discussion. DePaul’s Political Science Association is coordinated by Wayne P. Steger, assistant professor of political science at DePaul. Steger’s areas of expertise include presidential and congressional elections, media coverage of presidential elections and the policy implications of elections.

A second debate-night event will take place on DePaul’s Loop Campus where a group of 30 high school students will watch the debate at the university’s College of Law and then grade candidates on their performance, command of the issues and leadership ability. The program, part of the Mikva Challenge youth political awareness initiative, will take place at 7:30 p.m. at DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., 11th Floor.
