DePaul Experts Available for Interviews on Presidential Debate

The following DePaul University professors are available for interviews involving tonight’s presidential debate in Boston and subsequent debates between Republican candidate George W. Bush and Democratic candidate Al Gore:

Michael Mezey, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of political Science. Expertise: Presidential politics, campaign issues. DePaul: 773/325-7305.

Bruce I. Newman, associate professor of marketing. Author of five books on political marketing, including “The Marketing of the President” and “The Mass Marketing of Politics: Democracy in an Age of Manufactured Images.” Expertise: candidate image and positioning, campaign marketing strategy, voter behavior. DePaul: 312/362-5186. .

Michael Eric Dyson, professor of religious studies. Expertise: candidates’ positions on issues important to African American voters, political relationship between blacks and Jews, voting patterns of African Americans. DePaul: 312/362-8988.

Barbara Radner, associate professor, School of Education, and director of DePaul's Center for Urban Education. Radner can discuss a variety of debate issues relating to education, including testing, school funding, teacher recruitment, vouchers and national teacher standards. DePaul: 773/325-7171.

Wayne P. Steger, assistant professor of political science. Expertise: presidential and congressional elections, media coverage of presidential elections, and the policy implications of elections. He has published articles and chapters on presidential nominations, media coverage of presidentail elections, political marketing, and electoral mandates. DePaul: 773/325-4240
