Chicago Police Release Sketch of Dorm Intruder

Chicago Police released a composite drawing Thursday of the suspect who threatened a student in her residence hall Tuesday afternoon and are urging anyone who may see the man to call authorities.

The sketch was posted around the Lincoln Park Campus to alert students and was distributed at a Community Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meeting held on campus Thursday evening.

The campus has been on heightened alert since Tuesday, when a student scuffled with a man who entered her room and threatened her with a knife in McCabe Hall, 900 W. Belden Ave.

The university notified students of the incident and reminded them about safety precautions in meetings, phone calls and e-mails Tuesday evening and has provided ongoing updates.

Officials recommended that students maintain an awareness of their surroundings at all times, walk in pairs whenever possible, report any suspicious activity to Public Safety, make use of the emergency call boxes located throughout campus, keep doors locked and not allow others to enter buildings without valid identification.

Students also may take advantage of Public Safety's escort service, which operates between campus buildings and parking lots from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Anyone with information about the suspect may call Chicago Police 18th District at 312/744-8230 or Area Three Violent Crimes at 312/744-8261. DePaul students or staff may call Public Safety with information at 773/325-7777.
